• Center for American Studies to Host Assistant Secretary of Homeland SecurityChristopher Newport University’s Center for American Studies will host Alan Bersin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for International Affairs, on Friday, March 11, 2016. Bersin will present “Lines and Flows: The Beginning and End of Borders,” and will address central issues in homeland security and border security. The lecture will take place at 4 p.m. in McMurran 101 and is free and open to the public.
  • One City Marathon Road and Lot ClosuresOn Sunday, March 13, from 5 a.m. to noon, Christopher Newport will host a part of the race route for the Newport News One City Marathon. During that time, the University will virtually be closed to traffic.
  • ‘Can a Liberal Education Be a Civic Education?’The Dean William Parks Colloqium lecture "Can a Liberal Education Be a Civic Education?" will feature Stephen Wirls, Associate Professor of Political Science at Rhodes College. Wirls will explore the differences between a liberal education and an education for a free society.
  • Boston University Scholar to Lecture on Iraq and SyriaDr. Michael Danti of Boston University will present “Iconoclasm, Pillage, and Plunder: The Cultural Heritage Crisis in Syria and Iraq,” on Wednesday, March 16, at 1 p.m., in Gaines Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.

  • Accounting Majors to Provide Free Tax ServicesStudents in Christopher Newport University's Luter School of Business will prepare and e-file tax returns this year. The free service is geared toward low-to-moderate income taxpayers, and returns will be prepared by accounting majors certified by the IRS-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
