Department of Military Science

After Graduation

After completing the two- or four-year program requirements, students are commissioned in the United States Army in active duty, reserve and/or National Guard service. You can choose from several branches, such as military intelligence, aviation, infantry ranger, military police, judge advocate general and many more.

Active and Reserve Duty

All commissioned officers incur an initial six- to eight-year obligation, depending on the scholarship(s) you received. Cadets can request active duty or reserve forces duty.

Active Duty

Officers serve the first three to four years on active duty, with the remaining years served in reserves or National Guard.

Reserve Forces Duty (Army National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve)

Newly commissioned officers may enter active duty for approximately 90 days to attend a branch-specific officer basic course and serve out the remainder of obligation in the reserves while pursuing a civilian career. Cadets may choose to guarantee this option in the beginning of their junior or senior year.

Guaranteed Reserve Duty Forces (GRFD) Scholarship/Contract

GRFD allows cadets to select reserve or National Guard duty instead of active duty. The commitment is for six or eight years, one weekend a month, with two weeks of annual training.

Reserve and National Guards Career Placement Opportunity

Officers have the opportunity to interview with a local or national corporation for potential career placement.
