Mary Stuart

By Friedrich Schiller
A New Version by Peter Oswald

October 12-14 and 17-19

This highly acclaimed new version of Schiller’s masterful drama transports us back to 1587, when having influence through power, religion, loyalty and royalty, was literally a matter of life or death. The court of Elizabeth I is threatened by the imprisoned Mary Stuart, whose has a legitimate claim to the English throne. Even more troubling, Mary is a Roman Catholic in a newly Protestant England, with her disaffected fellow believers fomenting revolution. Oswald’s Mary Stuart gives the audience a sense of the personal sacrifices and political dilemmas faced by these two monarchs, influential women in a male dominated world.
