Geoffrey Klein

Dr. Geoffrey Klein

Klein works collaboratively with several university offices to provide resources for faculty and students to pursue research opportunities and measure student learning across all academic programs, including the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. He also serves at the director of graduate studies, where he oversees three graduate programs in teaching, applied physics and computer science, and environmental science.

Klein leads the University's efforts to maintain accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) as the SACSCOC accreditation liaison. Klein’s responsibilities include the Office of Assessment, Sponsored Programs, Undergraduate Research and the Office of Graduate Studies.

Klein holds a tenured faculty position in the Department of Molecular Biology and Chemistry and routinely teaches analytical chemistry. His excellence in the classroom led to the awarding of the inaugural Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2012. His main area of research is petroleomics, the analysis of crude oil in an effort to predict its behavior in upstream and downstream processes. His work has been published in journals such as Energy and Fuels, Organic Geochemistry, Fuels, and Journal of Chemical Education. He has received over $2.7 million to support his research endeavors from external sponsors, including the National Science Foundation and the American Chemistry Society Petroleum Research Fund. He holds a PhD from Florida State University and bachelor of science degree from the College of William & Mary.
