Applying Early Decision ensures that your application will be among the first we review — and if admitted, bring a quick, successful completion to your college search. If we are unable to initially offer you admission, we may defer your application and consider it again during the Regular Decision process.

By applying Early Decision by the November 15 deadline, you agree to enroll in the fall at Christopher Newport University if you are offered admission. You may apply to other colleges, but agree to withdraw all other applications if admitted to Christopher Newport. You must submit a nonrefundable deposit by the end of January in order to secure your place in the class.

Given the commitment made by Early Decision applicants, we naturally consider your determination in the admission process. After all, we want students who have decided that Christopher Newport is the best match. Our admission standards do not change during Early Decision, but Early Decision applicants may be given preference. Outstanding applicants will also be among the first students considered for the President's Leadership and Honors Programs.

All Early Decision applicants must have the Early Decision Agreement approved by a parent/guardian and a high school counselor electronically through the Common Application.

Your application is considered complete and ready for review once you complete the following:

  1. Submit the Common Application, including:
    • Essay
    • $65 non-refundable application fee (if seeking a fee waiver, submit an official College Board, ACT or NACAC Fee Waiver Request signed by a high school counselor who can attest to a financial hardship)
  2. Submit your most recent official high school transcript. Paper transcripts are accepted, but we encourage electronically submitted transcripts.
  3. Have your SAT, ACT and/or CLT scores sent directly to Christopher Newport (unless you qualify to apply test-optional).
