Graduate Admission

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for traditional graduate programs are listed below.

  • Each program has an application checklist of specific admission requirements, which include:
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited college or university, documented by official transcript*
    • Successful minimum scores on specified entrance exams (GRE, PRAXIS, VCLA)
    • Three recommendation forms (which must include one full-time professor in your major)
      • Send recommendation forms electronically, as part of your application, after submitting your application through CNU LIVE.
      • The recommendation forms (with dispositions or abilities) are required; reference letters alone are not adequate.
      • Please plan ahead and allow at least two weeks for faculty to send their responses.
      • You must complete the online application in order to send the recommendation forms.
      • If you experience difficulty when sending the recommendation forms, please email gradadmit@cnu.edu.
    • Additional requirements for each program as listed below.
    • International applicants have additional requirements.
    • A $65 nonrefundable application fee is required.

If applying while in senior status, before your undergraduate degree is conferred, you must submit a final, official transcript (showing a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher) to document graduation, before an unconditional offer of admission is made.

All documents submitted for admission remain the property of Christopher Newport University.
