How to Apply - International Freshman Admission - Christopher Newport University

International Freshman Admission

How to Apply

If you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, and are currently enrolled in high school, we consider you a freshman international applicant. Students who are currently enrolled in a university should review the transfer admission process.

There is not a separate international application. Within your Common Application, you will select one of following as your application type:

  • Early Decision (binding)
  • Early Action (non-binding)
  • Regular Decision

International applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis and may receive a decision prior to each notification date. Admission is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Your application is considered complete and ready for review once you complete the following:

  1. Submit the Common Application, including
    • Essay
    • $65 USD non-refundable application fee
  2. Submit your official high school or secondary school transcripts. If the transcripts are not in English, they must be translated.
  3. Have your official SAT or ACT scores sent directly to Christopher Newport University. If English is not your native language, you must submit English proficiency exam scores.
  4. Submit the Financial Resources Statement and official bank statements or affidavits. This is only required for international students who will need an F-1 visa.
  5. Submit a copy of your current U.S. visa, if applicable. You may also be required to submit a copy of your parent’s visa or proof of employment.

We recommend all applicants complete the following actions:

  1. Submit teacher evaluations in a core subject (English, social studies, foreign language, mathematics or science).
  2. Schedule an admission interview (required for scholarship applications). We offer virtual interviews.
  3. Have your school counselor submit a School Report Form electronically.

Christopher Newport University offers partial merit-based scholarships to freshman who are part of the President’s Leadership Program and/or the Honors Program. You must apply to be considered for these programs and the scholarships. To apply to the President’s Leadership and/or Honors Program:

  1. Select “yes” for President’s Leadership Program and/or Honors program in the Academics section of the Common Application.
  2. Complete the mandatory essay questions.
  3. Schedule an admission interview.
