bergner Dr. Jeffrey Bergner is a former Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs (2005-2008). Prior to his position in the State Department, he was President and Managing Financial Partner of Bergner, Bockorny, Castagnetti, Hawkins & Brain, Inc., a consulting firm for clients on international trade, finance, taxation, and political issues. Before founding this firm, he served as staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chief of Staff for Senator Richard Lugar. Dr. Bergner also held the position of Senior Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and has served on the Board of Trustees of the Asia Foundation, the Hudson Institute, and Business Executives for National Security. Dr. Bergner has held academic positions at the University of Pennsylvania, the University of Michigan, and Georgetown University. He has published widely on issues of political theory, foreign affairs, and national and international security. He has authored or edited numerous books on these subjects, including: The Next American Century: Essays in Honor of Richard Lugar (Rowman and Littlefield, 2003); The New Superpowers: Germany, Japan and the United States in the New World Order (St. Martin's Press, 1991); and The Taiwan Relations Act: A Decade of Implementation (co-editor with William Bader, Hudson/SRI, 1989).
