A great way to engage and strengthen our community is to mentor a young person.  Several respected mentoring programs are available to place trained CNU Students as mentors in a local school or community organization.

Here are a few typical components of available mentoring opportunities:

  • Mentors commit to meeting with their mentee one hour each week throughout a CNU Academic Year.
  • Mentors must be trained, interviewed, and clear a standard background check.
  • Mentors are matched one on one with a student at a local school or community organization.Literacy Help

Greek Mentors

CNU Greek organizations are a major catalyst and participant in this initiative.

During the Spring semester of 2010, the Center issued a challenge to campus organizations, asking them to consider how they might add value to their CNU experience while making a positive and substantial impact on our community.  Two Fraternities- Sigma Phi Epsilon and Pi Lambda Phi- immediately responded with interest.  They considered a few different options, but quickly became 'sold' on the idea of mentoring a young person.  When the Fall 2010 Semester began, the Center arranged meetings between Mentor Placement organizations and the leaders of these fraternities.  Everyone agreed that all CNU fraternities and sororities should be invited- even challenged- to poll their members and get sign-ups for training.

The first training was a success as over 50 CNU Greeks attended!  The Center would like to thank the CNU Greeks for their response to this opportunity.  The model for meaningful service and courageous commitment does not go unnoticed.
