Online registration is closed. On-site registration will be available Friday and Saturday (cash/check only).

Friday, October 20

Library Rotunda


Family Weekend includes a full schedule of games, concerts, fairs and fun! Families arriving after 7 p.m. on Friday can have their student pick up registration materials for them or pick them up on Saturday.

2 - 6 p.m.
David Student Union Street and Washington Room


Learn about study abroad programs offered through CNU and our partner organizations. Speak with faculty about options available in the summer, spring break and semester. Learn about the CNU Exchange partners and the opportunities to study in those locations for a semester. Meet representatives from study abroad organizations with additional options around the world for semester or summer programs.

Luter Hall


Come see the classrooms and labs of the Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering, as well as an exhibition of student and faculty research.

Blends punches, kicks and other fun cardio moves into an energizing workout! Includes core work and a relaxing yoga cool down/stretch. All fitness levels welcome.

Join President Trible and other members of the CNU community as we kick off Family Weekend with a reception featuring heavy hors d'oeuvres and drinks. This is an event for the whole family! Please remember to include your student when registering your family for this event.

*This event is by invitation only for Discovery Pass and President's Circle Members.

8 p.m.
Great Lawn


The junior class ring ceremony is a tradition that will be as memorable as your official ring. You have the opportunity to join your class, family members, alumni and staff on the Great Lawn where President Trible will give you your ring in a walnut ring box bearing the Christopher Newport University seal in gold.

President's Residence


This parents-only event is by invitation only for President's Circle members.

9 a.m.
Gaines Theatre


Whether you are a parent of a current Greek life student or just interested in social Greek organizations, this session is a great opportunity for you. Parents and students are welcome to join this session where you can talk to current Greek students about their experience.

9 a.m.
Tailgate Lots - SOLD OUT


Join fellow Captains fans in a pre-game tailgate in the lot next to POMOCO stadium. Tailgate passes will go on sale August 28. For more information on purchasing tickets and tailgate regulations, visit the Athletics Department website.

9 a.m.-11 p.m.
Freeman Center


The Freeman Center will be free to guests of Family Weekend over the age of 18. Jump on the treadmill, elliptical, or try out some free weights as you enjoy the fitness area. Note: Fitness classes are not open to Family Weekend guests.

10:30 a.m.
Diamonstein Concert Hall


Start your Saturday off with a state of the university address by President Trible.

Alumni House


We love our alumni, especially when they send their children and grandchildren to Christopher Newport! We want to take this opportunity to thank you and share a special lunch for those who share the Christopher Newport legacy with their family members. Bring the whole family for a lunch in the beautiful new Gregory P. Klich Alumni House.

1 p.m.
POMOCO Stadium


Cheer on the Captains as they take on William Paterson. General admission and reserved bleacher tickets go on sale August 28 via the box office and online. Chairback tickets will go on sale October 2 through the box office only. For more information on purchasing tickets, visit the Athletics Department website.

Chair back seats and general admission for the football game are sold out. Standing room only tickets will be available for purchase for $5 at the POMOCO Stadium main entrance beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

1 p.m.
Freeman Center


Celebrate senior day with the volleyball team as they take on the Frostburg State Bobcats.

4 - 6 p.m.
James River Fields


Catch the CNU spirit as we celebrate the Captains with this party on the field. The festival will take place during the family picnic on the JR fields at 4 p.m. and is free and open to all families attending Family Weekend.

Enjoy food and fun for this year's Family Weekend dinner picnic. The picnic is $15 per person (children under 4 years old and CNU students on a meal plan are free).

6 p.m.
Captains Turf Field


Come cheer on the Captains as they face the Spartans of York College (PA.).

7 p.m.
Diamonstein Concert Hall


An annual Christopher Newport tradition, featuring our outstanding students, faculty and ensembles. This year's theme is "Con Fuego!" ("With Fire!").

6 and 9 p.m.

Sunday, October 22

10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
David Student Union Ballroom


The Family Weekend tradition of Sunday brunch includes live music and the finest variety of breakfast and lunchtime favorites. This event sells out quickly, and space is very limited, so reserve your seats early! Reservations are on the half-hour. Brunch is $27 for guests over the age of 10, $10.50 for children between 4-10 years old and free for children under the age of 4.

Family Weekend brunch is sold out. Please contact the Office of University Events at cnuevents@cnu.edu to be placed on the waitlist.
