Each year, we look forward to the energy and excitement of Homecoming weekend, and we can’t wait to welcome you home on October 26-27. We have much in store for you this year!

11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Eighth Annual Captains Choice Classic Golf Tournament

Join us for an exciting day of golf on the Peninsula at one of Virginia’s most picturesque courses, James River Country Club. In addition to helping fund scholarships through the Christopher Newport Alumni Society, you will also support Fear2Freedom, a nonprofit organization that empowers communities to prevent and eradicate sexual abuse.

Upon check-in, each golfer will receive a welcome packet and an opportunity to bid on great raffle prizes. A celebration dinner and awards ceremony will follow the tournament.

Alumni, family and friends are invited to tour Alumni House, the first building on campus named after an alumnus, Gregory P. Klich '84.

Enjoy a walk through our beautiful campus and learn about the world-class facilities, academic buildings and residence halls on a 45-minute student-led tour.

6-9 p.m. Shoe Lane Lights: Craft Beer & Wine Festival

The Office of Alumni Relations is excited to host Shoe Lane Lights: Craft Beer & Wine Festival. Each ticket includes food, beer and wine tastings, a rum tasting from a new local distillery, plus a souvenir cup!

7 p.m. Glow in the DARCAPPELLA

Concert for all six campus a cappella groups: Expansion, Extreme Measures, the Newport Pearls, Take Note, Trebled Youth and University Sounds.

You can buy tickets in the DSU from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., October 17-23.

Noon Golf Cart Parade

The golf cart parade has become a very popular Homecoming tradition, as many CNU clubs and organizations show off their Captains spirit by uniquely decorating CNU’s favorite mode of transportation: golf carts! The route will take carts from the Freeman Center past the David Student Union to James River Field. Find a spot along the route and cheer for your favorite CNU club or organization.

Bring your friends and family to POMOCO Stadium to cheer the Captains on to victory over Kean University.

Homecoming T-Shirts

Support the Christopher Newport Alumni Society and the Class of 2019's class gift by purchasing the official Homecoming 2018 shirt. This year's winning tagline was submitted by Tim Eichenbrenner '74 and chosen by you.

"This is your Captain Speaking, Welcome Home!"

The purchase of each Homecoming shirt includes a $5 donation to the Alumni Society and Class of 2019's class gift. Shirts are Comfort Colors and come in short-sleeve ($16) or long-sleeve ($20). Shipping is available for an additional $2.

If you choose to pick-up your shirt in person, shirts will be available during these times:

Friday, October 26

  • David Student Union Atrium: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • David Student Union Breezeway: 6 - 9 p.m.

Saturday, October 27

  • Alumni House Portico: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

If you choose to ship your shirt, a shipping fee of $2 will be added to your shirt price. Shirts will be shipped following Homecoming weekend.

Alumni House Pass

The Alumni House Pass gives you access to a host of special Homecoming weekend features and programs, including:

  • VIP welcome cocktail reception with President and Mrs. Trible
    • Friday, 5 - 6:30 p.m., in the Klich Alumni House
  • VIP Homecoming tailgate brunch 
    • Saturday, 10 a.m. - noon, in the Klich Alumni House
  • Reserved game-day parking in Lot M with in-and-out privileges (not a tailgating lot)

  • Two tickets to Shoe Lane Lights: Craft Beer & Wine Festival
    • Friday, 6 - 9 p.m. in the David Student Union Ballroom
  • Reserved parking in Lot M for Friday night’s Shoe Lane Lights: Craft Beer & Wine Festival

  • Two short-sleeve Homecoming 2018 shirts

  • An exclusive Christopher Newport alumni spirit bag at check-in

  • A $50 tax-deductible contribution to the Gregory P. Klich Alumni House

Parking

There is open parking on campus during Homecoming weekend with a few exceptions: Lot M is reserved for those who purchased the Alumni House Pass. Lots D, L, K and I will close at 10 p.m. on Friday, October 26, to begin setup for the Tailgate Zone. These lots will open for those with valid tailgate zone passes on Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m. –1 p.m. After 1 p.m., these lots will be open parking.




Homecoming Tailgate Pass Pickup


Homecoming tailgate will-call will be located in front of York River Hall on Saturday, October 27, beginning at 9 a.m.

Alumni and friends who purchased a pass should enter campus from Avenue of the Arts and take the first exit out of the traffic circle toward the Trible Library and main campus. In front of the Trible Library, take a left through the gates. Drive straight until you get to the tailgate will-call on the left in front of York River Hall. Make sure you have a photo ID to pick up your pass. Once you have your pass, keep driving straight and follow directions into Lot I.
