Virginia Garden Week in Cape Charles, VA

Saturday, April 28, 2018

Celebrate the arrival of spring with the longest running garden week in our country – Historic Garden week in Virginia! Each spring visitors are welcomed to over 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during “America’s Largest Open House.” This 8-day statewide event provides visitors a unique opportunity to see unforgettable gardens at the peak of Virginia’s springtime color, as well as beautiful houses sparkling with over 2,300 flower arrangements created by Garden Club of Virginia members. Tour proceeds fund the restoration and preservation of more than 40 of Virginia’s historic public gardens and landscapes, a research fellowship program and a Garden Club of Virginia Centennial project with Virginia State Parks.

Your tour today takes you a short distance to the southern tip of the Eastern Shore, to the quaint town of Cape Charles. This part of Virginia is known for the warmth of its residents, the serenity of its waterfronts, the richness of its land and, most especially, the charm of its homes – all exemplifying the fine heritage of the Eastern Shore. Many properties are hidden from view, nestled amid mature landscapes or overlooking beautiful creeks, only to be revealed on rare occasions. Three of the homes are within walking distance of each other in the town of Cape Charles, two are located in the Bay Creek area and one, Eyre Plantation, has recently been honored as a National Historic Landmark. This acclaimed ancestral property offers a rare picture of colonial plantation life.

You are in for a special lunch treat today - at Oyster Farm at Kings Creek. It is a very popular waterfront restaurant, event center (they host many weddings) and marina. Your plated lunch will include a seafood and non-seafood selection, dessert and beverage.
