The teacher internship is the culminating experience of your teacher preparation program. You are ready to be an intern when you have completed all prerequisite courses and all graduate-level licensure courses.

The teacher internship is typically done in the spring of your 5th, or professional, year. The internship involves 13 weeks of full-time teaching in the Newport News Public Schools system. Two of these weeks are done at the beginning of the fall, and the remaining 11 are completed in the spring.

You should apply to be an intern at the beginning of summer, or at least one full semester prior to the anticipated teacher internship. Applications are available online, but will also be distributed through your Term I TCHG 516 course. All applications should be turned in to the Office of Teacher Preparation.
