I am very excited to let you know that we are in a European Touring year at CNU for this coming Spring of 2015!

Why should this concern you? The only time freshmen are allowed to audition for the Chamber Choir is a touring year, as we go only once every four years at CNU. And this year the Chamber Choir will be touring to Rome–Singing Mass at the Vatican, Venice–Singing Mass at St. Mark's Cathedral, Salzburg–Singing Mass at the Dom (where Mozart worked for the majority of his life), and Munich!

This trip will occur over Spring Break of 2015. The cost of this trip is approximately $3200.00

Please email me, lfowler@cnu.edu, for more information.

Dr. Lauren Fowler

An auditioned mixed choral ensemble that performs both on and off campus throughout the academic year. The repertoire includes a variety of musical styles, but the primary emphasis is on the masterworks of the choral repertoire. Students may register each semester, but no more than eight credits can be counted toward graduation.

Director: Dr. Lauren Fowler-Calisto

Audition Information:

If you are only interested in singing in Women's Chorus (MUSC 106, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-10:45 a.m.) or Men's Chorus (MUSC 117, meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m.) then you do NOT need to audition prior to classes beginning. We will "audition" you in your first class period with us!

However, if you want to audition for the chamber choir, then you will need to sing for me and our Assistant Conductor, Professor Sarah Frook, on Sunday afternoon the 24th, the day prior to classes beginning!

Here is your audition schedule and requirements for the Chamber Choir:

  • Send me an email saying yes, I am auditioning for chamber choir. lfowler@cnu.edu
  • Come to the door Ferguson A183 when you arrive on campus and sign up for an individual audition on Sunday, August 24th in the early afternoon.
  • For this audition you will sing scales, sight-read, tonal recognition (pitch patterns), and one verse of "My Country 'tis of Thee." Words are provided. Sight-reading will be in minor, with no major skips or leaps.
  • I will let you know AT this audition if you are called back for the group audition with the current choir, which will be on Monday, the 25th from 1-2:45 pm. This time MAY be in conflict with your current course schedule, in which you should let me know ASAP if you are interested. I can excuse you from your first class that is a conflict for this call-back, but if you make the choir, you MUST re-arrange your schedule for the entire year to include Chamber Choir from 1-2:45 p.m. M and W, and 1-2 p.m. on Fridays.
  • This audition includes sight-reading, one on a part in mixed octets AND a prepared set of pieces that I will send you immediately if you are interested in this audition!
  • The final list will be posted on Tuesday morning, August 26 prior to Women's Chorus at 9 a.m. Students are responsible for changing their own schedules, but I can help with this process, as I am a core and master advisor at CNU.

Please email me, lfowler@cnu.edu, immediately if you are interested in singing in the Chamber Choir! Otherwise, I will see you on the first day of classes.

This is a year-long, auditioned, major ensemble course open to any female student at CNU. The group performs primarily on campus throughout the academic year. The repertoire includes a variety of styles; however, emphasis on women's chorus masterworks, as well as a cappella song, throughout the history of choral music is emphasized. Students may register each semester, but no more than eight credits can be counted toward graduation.
