This is Homecoming Week at Christopher Newport and it is shaping up as the biggest and best yet, with new activities, new reasons to gather with your friends and classmates, and new opportunities to cheer the Captains on to victory.
New for 2019:
- The Shoe Lane Lights: Wine and Craft Beer Festival is slated for Walkers Green. If that doesn’t sound familiar, it’s next to the Gregory P. Klich Alumni House and you’ll have a chance to admire the new historical marker on the Green that tells a fascinating story about Christopher Newport’s early years. Also new at Shoe Lane Lights will be an alumni cabaret.
- The new Jennings Family Stadium will be dedicated. It’s the home of Captains lacrosse and field hockey teams, and the name honors Bruce, Laurie, Kylene (‘08) and Kendall Jennings. The women’s lacrosse team will be in action at the stadium Saturday morning.
As always, most of the activities are on the Friday and Saturday, but the fun has already started on campus. Spirit Week highlights include the Captains Cup competition and Bring Out the Blue in You. That’s the day everyone on campus sports their Christopher Newport colors and the Campus Activities Board will be cruising the campus with special surprises for students in CNU gear.
Homecoming Week is also about the traditions that set Christopher Newport apart. So don’t miss Glow in the DARCAPPELLA, Midnight Madness and, of course, Alumni Alley. From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Captains for Life can check out what’s new with academics, athletics, Greek life, the arts and all aspects of life as a Captain.
Then, during halftime of the football game at TowneBank Stadium, cheer the presentation of the Wright Cup, a friendly competition between the classes of 2014-2018. The class with the highest percentage of alumni donors will be the first ever winner of the prize, which is proudly named after Lois Wright ‘62, the first graduate and longtime supporter of Christopher Newport.
