Symphony Under the Stars Lights Up Great Lawn with Fireworks and Broadway Hits

Public is invited to attend free celebratory musical extravaganza

Read time:

The Great Lawn will come alive with fireworks and the musical magic of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) at 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 13.

The VSO will perform a free community concert of Broadway hits under the stars as part of the celebration of the inauguration of William G. Kelly as sixth president of Christopher Newport University.

The Symphony Under the Stars will feature Broadway veteran Tiffany Haas and Colin Ruffer, director of musical theater at CNU. Brandon Eldridge will conduct. You’ll hear familiar Broadway show tunes ranging from Phantom of the Opera to Singing in the Rain to Sound of Music. The dynamic, family-oriented concert is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the celebratory evening under the stars with a fireworks finale. Food trucks will be onsite and food is available for purchase.

The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank will be at the concert collecting donations of non-perishable items to combat food insecurity in our community.
