Luter Students Place in Regionals

(Newport News, Va.) - On Monday March 22, 2010 CNU’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team traveled to Philadelphia for the annual regional competition. Thirty-five SIFE teams from this region were entered in this competition.  Results were based on which team had the most impact improving people's lives.

The students were accompanied by two professors from the Joseph W. Luter School of Business, Dr. Stephanie Bardwell and Dr. Patrick Walker. Their Financial Literacy Project and other yearly accomplishments earned them a second runner-up placement.

Nearly 50 percent of the children in the community surrounding CNU are financially non-secure. The Financial Literacy Project was designed to help young children and teenagers in the area gain financial knowledge and use their money responsibly. SIFE CNU continues to help teach market economics, entrepreneurship, success skills, and business ethics, financial literacy and other money management skills to the children of the Virginia Peninsula.

Since the program’s inception the SIFE members have directly impacted more than 500 students at the Virginia Peninsula Boys and Girls Clubs. With the help of over 40 volunteers -comprised of both students and faculty- they have taught children in grades two through twelve.

SIFE Team members included: Jeff Myren, Amanda Veinott, Cole Usry, Marie Pierce, Eugene Nsiah, Victoria Baughan, Sam Ehsani, Cory Thomas.
