Dr. Robert E. Colvin Appointed Dean of College of Social Sciences
(Newport News, Va.) -
Christopher Newport University announced the appointment of Robert E. Colvin, Ph.D. as dean of the College of Social Sciences, effective Monday, May 17, 2010. The College of Social Sciences houses the academic departments of communication studies; government; sociology, social work and anthropology; leadership and American studies; and the Joseph W. Luter, III School of Business.
Dr. Colvin joined the CNU faculty in August 1998 in the Department of Government. Since 2005, he has served as founding chair of the Department of Leadership and American Studies and taught courses in leadership studies. He serves on the Managing Board of the Journal of Leadership Education, a tier-one journal in the field of leadership studies. His publications are in the area of leadership studies, and he has given presentations on leadership topics at the top scholarly conferences in the field in Amsterdam, Chicago, Miami, Prague, Toronto and Vancouver. In addition, Dr. Colvin recently co-taught a course on Leadership Through the Ages at Harris Manchester College, Oxford University in the U.K. Prior to joining CNU, Dr. Colvin headed Virginia’s Office of Consumer Affairs, was a commissioner for the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, and served as executive director of the Virginia legislature’s State Crime Commission.
