Food For Thought 2011

Smithfield Foods generously pledges 10,000 pounds of protein!

Forty percent of the children in the Hampton Roads community often do not know where they will get their next meal.
Smithfield Foods logoIn order to help alleviate hunger and the suffering that comes with it, Christopher Newport University will hold the finale of its fourth annual Food for Thought campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011. The drive mobilizes the entire campus community to collect both food and money to directly benefit the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula. As part of its “Helping Hungry Homes” program, Smithfield Foods has generously pledged 10,000 pounds of protein toward the CNU effort.
The Smithfield Foods donation will be delivered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, while CNU students and employees bring food and money collected to the Trible Library courtyard to be weighed, sorted, boxed, and loaded onto Foodbank trucks. Community members are also encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items and checks made payable to The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula on Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
