CNU & Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine Establish Scholarship

(Newport News, Va.) - Christopher Newport University and the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) have established a new program to benefit traditionally underserved students interested in studying pre-med at CNU.

The Rocovich Scholars Program will provide leadership scholarships up to $5,000 annually for incoming freshmen interested in pursuing a medical career. To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria: reside in a rural or medically underserved area, self-identify membership in an underrepresented group, or otherwise demonstrate socioeconomic hardship. Students must also have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 and 1100 (critical reading and math) SAT score. The program is named after John Rocovich and Dr. Sue Ellen Rocovich, who were instrumental in founding VCOM.

CNU students may now qualify for early acceptance to either VCOM or Eastern Virginia Medical School during their undergraduate studies without having to take the Medical College Admission Test. Such an advantage will put them on a fast track to realizing their dreams of a rewarding medical career. CNU’s pre-med program continues to produce talented students. Over the past three years, 80 percent of CNU applicants have been accepted to medical school.
