Ferguson Center Announces 2014-15 Season
(Newport News, Va.) - Broadway blockbusters, world-famous performing artists, dignitaries and diverse family entertainment comprise Christopher Newport University's Ferguson Center for the Arts 2014-15 season.
Highlights include exclusive Hampton Roads performances by Chris Isaak, comedic legend Jerry Lewis, the Joffrey Ballet, Garrison Keillor, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, Ziggy Marley, Natalie Cole, Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Indigo Girls and Johnny Mathis. Broadway productions take center stage with a world-class roster of shows, including the Tony, Grammy and Olivier Award-winning "Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons"; the enthralling and deliciously wicked musical "Jekyll & Hyde"; the raise-the-roof, song-and-dance celebration "Smokey Joe's Café featuring The Coasters!"; and the hilarious musical parody "Menopause The Musical."
Classical offerings include the National Symphony Orchestra with Conductor Christoph Eschenbach, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México with Music Director Enrique Bátiz and the BBC Concert Orchestra with Keith Lockhart. In addition, the Distinguished Speaker Series will feature former U.S. Secretary of State General Colin Powell, former U.S. senators Olympia Snowe and Joe Lieberman in conversation together, and legendary basketball coach Bob Knight.
"For more than 10 years and 500-plus performances, CNU's Ferguson Center for the Arts has been a regional leader in bringing the best the performing arts world has to offer to Hampton Roads," says Executive Director Bill Biddle. "Our commitment to our mission -- to offer a broad range of performances while reaching the largest number of people -- remains strong. And we continue to bolster that effort with recent initiatives such as our new young professional group MyStage@TheFerg (which now boasts more than 300 members) and additional educational offerings to the community. I encourage people to join our E-Club to receive news about these programs and more."
