I take great pleasure in teaching entering freshmen, and especially in helping them to grow in skill and confidence as writers, and as readers and oral communicators as well. It is also a pleasure to teach the redesigned English 223 with its focal emphasis on literature.

My scholarly reading has been focused on the writings of Steven Pinker, an invaluable resource for my preparation to teach The Structure of English (430) again in Spring 2016. I continue developing drafts on Patrick O'Brian's novels, and poems by W.H. Auden,Wallace Stevens, and Percy Shelley.

I have been teaching at CNU for over 30 years, 26 as a Regular Faculty member, beginning in the old Basic Studies Department and transitioning into English in 1988 as an English Instructor and Writing Specialist. I have been a full-time Instructor of English since AY 2003-04.
