Biography

Danielle Velardi received her Master’s from Middlebury College and her Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America in Spanish literature. She lived, worked and studied in Spain for 7 years and joined the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at CNU in 1992. She served as Chair of her department for 7 years and presently serves as Coordinator of the Spanish Section and oversees curricula and junior faculty mentorship. She teaches courses in intermediate and advanced level Spanish language and culture, a Popular Culture Seminar on Spain’s Transition to Democracy with a focus on the Movida Madrileña and Advanced Business Spanish. One main area of her research is textbook development. She has co-authored an intermediate Business Spanish textbook, Vistas comerciales y culturales, accompanying Student Manual, CD transcript and Student Web Site and is presently finishing her second textbook, an intermediate hybrid Spanish program entitled Rutas al mundo hispano both for Cengage Learning. She has given numerous pedagogical and professional development workshops nationally and internationally during her 24-year tenure at CNU. She is an avid traveler, having visited 21 countries, and hopes to inspire this passion in her students.
