Teaching
Dr Hopkins teaches African-American Literature, Black Literature & Film, Black Poetics and Poetry; African-American Science Fiction; American Literature, as well as Composition; however, African-American Literature is her area of specialization.
Research
Dr Hopkins' research interests include African-American Literature and Gender Studies; looking at the violence inflicted upon the Black female body in cases of sexual exploitation, rape & lynching; and the complex images of black motherhood, which she has written about and presented upon extensively
Biography
Assistant professor of English and Director of African-American Studies at Christopher Newport University, where she researches: violence inflicted upon the black female body and images of black motherhood in literature.
