Research

My current research is divided into three areas:

*LGBT media activism in early YouTube days
*LGBT representation in media (from film/TV to streaming and social media)
*(De)Constructing industry narratives for award shows (analyzing trade publications, podcasts, and awards bloggers)

Biography

My classes and research focus on all aspects of media––from representation to the business of media industries; from film studies to Tik Toks and podcasting. More specifically, I study LGBT representation and the participatory politics of everyday people using media for activism. I also study award shows as a network of industry businesses (from trade magazines to celebrities and the red carpet all the way to bloggers and #FilmTwitter discourse).

The primary classes I teach in the Communication department are:
Media Industries
Critical Media Theory
Film and Communication
Media Research Methods
LGBT Media Studies
