Every year, the psychology department honors graduating students who have distinguished themselves through their academic performance, their leadership or through excellence in research. These awards are made possible through generous gifts provided by faculty, alumni, lecturers and staff. A description of each award and previous winners can be found below. The deadline for applications and nominations is 4:45 p.m. on March 15. Completed applications, including all required elements (see instructions below), should be submitted to Ms. Elliott in the Psychology Department Office in Forbes 2022). A committee of psychology faculty and staff will review applications and select the successful candidates.

Honors in Psychology
Students who graduate with honors in psychology have at least a 3.0 overall GPA and at least 3.5 GPA in psychology. No application required.



Distinction in Psychology
Students who graduate with distinction – high honors – in psychology have at least a 3.0 overall GPA and at least a 3.75 GPA in psychology. No application required.



Lawrence O'Kelly Memorial Award in Physiological Psychology

The award is given to a student whose coursework and research have demonstrated a commitment to and excellence in work related to physiological psychology. A cash prize of $100 accompanies this award, donated by Mrs. O’Kelley.

Joanne Squires Award in Industrial/Organizational Psychology

This award is given to a student who has taken at least two courses in industrial/organizational psychology and who has conducted research or independent study in related areas.

Psychology Citizenship Award

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated excellence in service within the Department of Psychology. Consideration is given to students who have been involved in psychology clubs and organizations (Psi Chi, Psychology Club), who have assisted the department in service (e.g., open houses), and/or who have fostered a sense of community among students and faculty within the department.

Excellence in Psychological Research Award

Awarded to a student who has excelled in research within the Department of Psychology. Consideration is given to students who have engaged in the research process across multiple years; who have demonstrated developmental changes in research knowledge and practice; who have presented research at regional, national or international conferences; and/or who have published research in peer-reviewed journals.

F. Samuel Bauer Award
