Ms. Joy Kearney, Director of Recreational Services

Ms. Kearney graduated from Old Dominion University (ODU) with a M.S. Ed. in Sport Management. She also completed her undergraduate work at ODU receiving a B.S. in Sport Management and a minor in Management. She has been part of the CNU family since Fall 2008.

She is in charge of the Office of Recreational Services (CNURec), which includes the program areas: intramural sports, sport clubs and outdoor adventure and recreation (OAR). OAR is the newest part of the department, which Ms. Kearney helped to form Spring 2009.

Prior to Ms. Kearney's appointment as Director of Recreational Services, she has worked and volunteered in various avenues of sport and even outside of her major. Her experience includes, but is not limited to: Community Services Coordinator (Lincoln Military Housing), Marketing & Special Events Assistant (Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum), and she interned with the Hampton Roads Sports Commission assisting with the 2006 AAU Junior Olympics.

As a young professional, Joy feels it's extremely important to be active within ones community. She serves as a committee chair for the Newport News Relay for Life, is a volunteer for the YWCA Virginia Peninsula (board member Dec. 2010 - August 2011), member of the Urban League of Hampton Roads Young Professionals (ULHRYP), and volunteers at other various events within the community. Additionally, she is a charter member for the Hampton Roads Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, Professional Member of the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA), as well as a member of the Virginia Recreational Sports Association (VRSA).

Ms. Kearney is certified and teaches Lay Responder CPR/AED and First Aid.
