Hosting an Event

The world-class facilities at Christopher Newport are sure to be the perfect setting for your event. Below are some frequently asked questions that will help you choose the right space to accommodate your guests and your budget.

What rental spaces are available?

The following facilities are available:

  • Ballroom
  • Two banquet rooms
  • Four conference rooms
  • Gaines Theatre
  • Classrooms
  • Computer labs

What is the maximum capacity of each space?

Spaces vary in size and can accommodate as few as 20 people and as many as 530.

What kind of equipment can the University provide?

The following audio-visual equipment is available:

  • TVs
  • VCRs, DVD players
  • Overhead and slide projectors
  • Podiums
  • Microphones
  • Tripods
  • Flipcharts
  • And more!

Several seating configurations are also available, based on your needs. Long buffet tables, round dining tables, square registration tables and theater seating are all available.

Can I provide food and refreshments for my event?

Food or beverages cannot be brought into the David Student Union for any scheduled/reserved event. However, Christopher Newport offers a catering service that provides a variety of food options, from light fare to full-course fine dining.

What are the rental rates?

Each room is available for rent for a four-hour usage period. If your event will last longer than four hours, you will be billed at a pro-rated hourly rate.

When is payment due?

The Business Office will send an invoice which must be paid at least 48 hours prior to your event. We will assist you in completing the reservation contract.
