The Office of University Events puts on over 100 events each year. Some of these events are unique to the individual year, while others happen on an annual basis and are a large part of University tradition. Some of these annual events include:
Community of Scholars Convocation- The first official tradition that a CNU student takes part in is the Community of Scholars Convocation. This annual event brings all incoming students together in welcome and celebration of the new school year and marks their commitment to becoming part of CNU's Community of Honor. The students are joined by faculty, alumni and other members of the University community who acts as witnesses to the signing of the CNU Honor Code by each incoming student. After the student signs the Honor Code, a witness hands them a penny sealed in a casing with the words to the Honor Code. Each student is asked to hold on to the penny so that they may throw it in the fountain on the day the graduate from CNU.
Freshmen Desserts-Freshmen Desserts is President and Mrs. Trible's special way of welcoming the incoming class to CNU. All incoming students are invited to the Trible's home to enjoy desserts with many of the faculty and staff from campus. This event is a great way for the students to meet each other, as well as many of the faculty and staff that will be important during their time at CNU.
Tailgating-Tailgating is a new tradition here at CNU and one that is growing with every football game. Students, parents, alumni, and member of the community are welcome to join us before each home football game to celebrate with other CNU fans and get ready to cheer the Captains onto victory. Please refer to our tailgating policy before arriving on campus.
Family Weekend-This is a great weekend full of events brings the campus community together to help welcome our student's families to campus. Events such as the Annual Musical Showcase, Captain's Football, CAB movies, a Conversation with the President, and the Family Brunch are just a few of the events that you are guaranteed to see on the agenda for this weekend. Every year gets bigger and better! Find out more.
Homecoming-CNU's campus is developing traditions everyday and one of the oldest is our Homecoming celebration. This weekend gives our alumni a chance to celebrate their time at CNU with other graduates, reconnect with the University and see first-hand how the campus is continuing to grow. Whether it is tailgating with friends, getting a tour of campus, or watching the newly added golf cart parade, Homecoming is a great time to come back and celebrate being a Captain. Check out this year's Homecoming festivities.
Holiday Tree Lighting- A campus favorite! The Holiday Tree Lighting gives the University community a chance to take a break from the end of the semester and the craziness of the holidays to enjoy an evening of celebration with President and Mrs. Trible while we reflect on the year and light up the beautiful holiday tree. Special appearances are also made by CNU vocal ensembles and Santa! What a great time for students, faculty and staff to celebrate the holidays and enjoy the beauty campus around the holidays.
December Graduates Reception-This reception is a time for us to celebrate those students who have finished their academic coursework in December and are now officially CNU graduates. Although no formal program is held, these students are celebrated with a reception on campus with their friends and family and then are invited to walk in Commencement Exercises in May.
Honors Convocation-This ceremony, held the day before Commencement, honors those graduating seniors who will graduate with Latin Honors. This ceremony also gives the opportunity to celebrate faculty and their achievements. This event is conducted in full regalia and is an excellent representation of the scholar and honor that CNU represents.
Commencement- The last official tradition and the culminating event of their course of study as a CNU student is the Commencement ceremony. CNU's Commencement takes place in May and celebrates those students who graduated in both August, December and May. It is a time for the university community to come together and recognize those students who have achieved greatness and welcome the newest class of graduates in the CNU Alumni Family.
