We offer a major and a minor in German. Course topics include globalization, business German, German Romanticism, memory in post-war literature, cultural history and East Germany.
You can also minor in international culture and business with coursework in German.

This course uses German films to improve listening comprehension, writing and conversational skills. The main emphasis is on vocabulary improvement.
Offers an overview of the cultural history of German-speaking Europe from 1800 to the present. Students will study the historical framework necessary to understand major intellectual and artistic movements. They will also analyze representative examples of art, music, film, literature, philosophy and social customs.
In this course students acquire the linguistic proficiency and cultural awareness necessary to function effectively and knowledgeably in a German-speaking business environment.
Beyond the Classroom
Our faculty frequently collaborate with students on a wide array of research projects. We host a chapter of Delta Phi Alpha, the national German honor society. We strongly encourage all German majors and minors to study abroad. Our students have recently studied in Munich, Lüneburg, Salzburg and Berlin.
