Duncan Raines partners and collaborates with offices campus-wide to build and maintain a strategic framework focusing on retention, graduation and post-graduation outcomes in support of the University’s mission and goals. Through this formation of effective and collaborative teams and partnerships, Christopher Newport has already accomplished a number of strategic goals and initiatives in the student success realm.
Duncan Raines’ current responsibilities include oversight of the following areas:

- Early alert and 'at-risk' programs
- Office of Financial Aid
- Learning Communities
- Office of the Registrar
- Student disability academic support programs
- Student information systems
- Transfer admission and enrollment
- Tutoring
- Veterans’ educational benefits programs
- Alice K. Randall Writing Center
Under Duncan Raines’ leadership, Christopher Newport was the recipient of the Ruffalo Noel Levitz 2016 Gold Retention Excellence Award and a University Business magazine Summer 2016 Models of Excellence Honoree. Duncan Raines earned a BS, an MBA, and a PhD in higher education leadership. Her areas of research include enrollment management, college student transitions and student success.
