Jason Lyons
Associate Provost for Assessment and Accreditation
Lyons leads the Office of Assessment and Accreditation which responsible for university assessment, accreditation and the administration of undergraduate academic program review. In addition, he also serves Christopher Newport as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) accreditation liaison.
Guided by best practice, Lyons leads the development and execution of institution wide assessment policy and works with faculty driven committees to maintain the university’s process for program review. In the execution of such policies, the Office of Assessment and Accreditation staff and Lyons work with all academic programs, administrative and student support service units, and university committees to ensure the completion of various assessment cycles and program reviews.
As the SACSCOC liaison, Lyons serves as the point of contact for the university’s accreditor and leads the university in its efforts to maintain compliance on all standards of accreditation.
Holding a PhD and MS in experimental psychology with a focus on animal behavior and evolutionary psychology, Lyons has taught psychology at various universities across the United States for over 20 years. He routinely teaches courses for the Department of Psychology.
