Accreditation

Whereas the regional bodies accredit institutions as a whole, professional organizations accredit academic programs within universities. Garnering departmental accreditation from any of the organizations recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation is an achievement.

In addition to maintaining institutional accreditation through SACSCOC, the following departments and program at Christopher Newport have earned programmatic accreditation:

The Luter School of Business is accredited through Association to Advance College Schools of Business.

The bachelor of science degree in computer engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

The bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.

Christopher Newport University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

The social work major is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accredits Christopher Newport University. CAEP promotes excellence in educator preparation through quality assurance and continuous improvement.

The Department of Theater and Dance is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theater and, as such, holds students to high artistic standards, collaborative conduct and scholastic achievement.
