The non-binding Early Action program is a great option for students very interested in Christopher Newport, but still considering multiple colleges and unable to commit to one early in the process. The deadline and notification dates occur after Early Decision, but before Regular Decision.

The primary benefit of applying Early Action is the chance to have your application reviewed long before the traditional spring notification date. If we are unable to initially offer you admission, we may defer your application and consider it again during the Regular Decision process.

By applying Early Action by the December 1 deadline, you will be given priority consideration for academic scholarships through the President’s Leadership and Honors Programs.

Your application is considered complete and ready for review once you complete the following:

  1. Submit the Common Application, including:
    • Essay
    • $65 non-refundable application fee (if seeking a fee waiver submit an official College Board, ACT or NACAC Fee Waiver Request signed by a high school counselor who can attest to a financial hardship)
  2. Submit your most recent official high school transcript. Paper transcripts are accepted, but we encourage electronically submitted transcripts.
  3. Have your SAT, ACT and/or CLT scores sent directly to Christopher Newport (unless you qualify to apply test-optional).
    • SAT code 5128
    • ACT code 4345

Virginia In-State Tuition Rates Eligibility You must complete all questions in the Residency and Parent/Legal Guardian Residency sections of the Common Application to be eligible for in-state tuition. Supporting documents may be requested, and you must submit them on or before the first day of the semester or term for which you are applying.

Note: The Common Application requires that students request a teacher recommendation when completing the application. However, we will review your application without a teacher recommendation.
  2. Schedule an admission interview.
  3. Schedule a campus visit.
  4. Have your school counselor submit a School Report Form electronically through the Common Application website. (Paper forms are accepted, but we encourage online submission through Common Application or Naviance.)
  5. Submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by March 1, if applicable.
