Conditional Admission - Christopher Newport University

Freshman Admission

Conditional Admission

All offers of admission and scholarships are conditional on students maintaining their current level of performance and behavioral expectations, as well as various other individual standards as set forth in an official notification letter.

Students presenting special talents in areas such as the performing arts, athletics, potential military service, and others may be offered admission contingent upon their recruitment status and their enrollment in College 140 The Transitional Learner for the fall term. Successful completion of Captains Launch – a virtual bridge program – is a prerequisite for the College 140 course. The summer component is designed to assist students with the successful academic and extracurricular transition to Christopher Newport, and is completed in the months between Setting Sail and Welcome Week. At the completion of the students' Setting Sail session, a mandatory meeting will provide instruction on the virtual bridge program. During Welcome Week, Captains Launch students will also be required to participate in Experience Day. During Experience Day, students will meet their College 140 instructors and staff from the Center for Student Success as well as participate in an interactive experience.

In order to sign in to the Admitted Student System, reserve a seat in the freshman class by paying your deposit and take other steps toward your enrollment, you must acknowledge your conditional admission and agree to enroll in Captains Launch.
