Student Life
Last week, the members of WCNU radio hosted a pizza and games mixer for anyone at Christopher Newport who was interested in joining our organization. The event was a huge success and a lot of fun for everyone who came out. I’m still relatively new to the organization, so it was exciting to meet with new members and learn about why they wanted to join as well as sharing my own experiences with them.
We all mingled with one another for about 30 minutes before we sat down for the presentation where we explained our role on campus and what we do. A lot of those who came to the event were interested in putting on their own radio show and we were really excited to hear about all the different ideas. To have your own show, you only need to pay a small fee and attend a training session to familiarize yourself with our equipment. Our station is a great platform for Captains and all of us at the radio are very happy to facilitate it.
I definitely have had a busy semester, but it’s been a lot of fun. Events like these are a great way to spend an hour or two a week and I’m happy to be a part of an organization that’s bringing something new to campus. WCNU is quickly becoming one of my favorite commitments at Christopher Newport because of how streamlined our workflow is. Results and goals are easy to track so it feels good to measure all the progress we’ve been making. We spent a few weeks planning this mixer and it felt great to finally have accomplished it and seeing such a great turnout.
