First Day Back: Mozzarella Sticks for Me

Student Life
First day of school in 2020 and what are they serving at Commons? Mozzarella sticks. They’re inarguably still my favorite food found around campus after two and a half years. In the years previous, I’ve written about how my enthusiasm for mozzarella sticks has only grown stronger as more time passes at Christopher Newport. Last year, when I went vegan for a semester, my first non-vegan item was an order of mozzarella sticks from Discovery Grill. No regrets. It’s definitely safe to say I’m still a big fan.
Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure last semester’s first lunch meal included mozzarella sticks as well. That’s a nice tradition the dining hall menus seem to have going on. It’s also proof that I’m not the only one who loves them so much. Oddly enough, I think I hear them brought up to me more than often I bring them up myself. When they are on the menu for a day, they disrupt everyone’s normal food flow. People flock in droves to get them (and they always order extra). It’s a real community effort to enjoy as many mozzarella as possible which anyone could appreciate.
Pretty soon, I’ll graduate and these mozzarella sticks will only be a memory. That sounds dramatic, but, realistically, if I ever eat them again after college, it’ll have to be during a campus visit as an alumni (which I definitely will do, but there’s no telling what food will be served). With junior year already halfway done, I’m excited to enjoy all of my remaining days in my undergraduate career and I won’t be skipping any mozzarella sticks anytime soon.
