Dr. Jonathan White, Associate Professor of American studies, has been named to the Board of Directors of the John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia. The Center was recently established to promote scholarship, teaching and public outreach regarding the United States in the era of the Civil War.

“I am excited for this opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading Civil War scholars in the United States,” White says. “Ever since I was an undergraduate I have admired the work of Gary W. Gallagher and Elizabeth Varon and the other Civil War historians at the University of Virginia, and I am honored that they have invited me serve on their board.”

White will also write for the Nau Center blog, and previously served as a book prize committee member for the Center.

White is senior fellow at CNU’s Center for American Studies. He is a specialist in the American Civil War with a particular interest in Abraham Lincoln, American politics and the U.S. Constitution. He earned his PhD from the University of Maryland.
