Christopher Newport University's Public History Center (PHC) has launched its “12 Explorers” project with the opening of the “Age of Innovation” exhibit. The exhibit allows the public to see a variety of maritime drones and submersibles up close, interact with kiosks that showcase how virtual and augmented reality are innovating the process of shipbuilding, and more. The exhibit is free and open to the public through September 24, from 1-5 p.m. daily, in the Diamonstein Concert Hall lobby of the Ferguson Center for the Arts.

To celebrate the project, the PHC will host a grand opening event on Thursday, September 14, at 7 p.m., and feature a keynote address from the United States Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral John Richardson. Admiral Richardson is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and is a military adviser to the president of the United States. Jennifer Boykin, executive vice president of Huntington Ingalls Industries and president of Newport News Shipbuilding, will also be in attendance and deliver remarks.
