The Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering (PCSE) held two panel discussions on women in science and engineering to celebrate Women’s History Month.
The first event, Empowering Female Leadership, Mentorship and Outreach in STEM, featured an esteemed group of professional female engineers from Canon Virginia, NASA and MITRE who shared their experience with students and provided invaluable career advice. The panel was moderated by Mary Beth Wusk, deputy director in the Office of Strategic Analysis, Communications and Business Development at NASA. With over 28 years of experience working in technology, Wusk is an avid supporter of science education and currently participates in PCSE's mentorship program.
The second panel brought together five CNU alumnae and two students from Virginia Tech who spoke and answered questions about making the transition beyond undergraduate studies. This event sparked interest among students as well as executive working professionals who volunteer their time to mentor female majors in the applied sciences and engineering fields.
“We are honored to celebrate Women’s History Month with such a diverse group of remarkable women, both seasoned professionals and those who are just now embarking on their careers,” Dr. Anton Riedl, PCSE department chair, says. “More importantly, we are always impressed by the enthusiasm of our very accomplished alumnae and their willingness to help current students grow, learn and prepare for their careers.”
