Theater lecturer Dr. Dave Shuhy has been awarded a grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts for his Immersive Design Experience (IDX), an intensive technical theater/design summer program for area high school students.

IDX is a three-day theatrical design program that gives students hands-on, studio-based opportunities to learn digital technologies through creative processes that draw from the STEAM fields (science, technology, engineering, art and math).

"The goal of the program is to generate excitement in art, design, science and engineering, and to increase computer literacy," says Shuhy. "The process of design brings together critical-thinking, problem-solving and aesthetic considerations, and teaches students transferable skills that will help them succeed in 21st-century careers."

The program runs from June 19-21 and will offer courses in sound editing, 3-D modeling, digital rendering, graphic design and lighting design. More information is available at the link below. The application deadline is April 1.

Shuhy is an expert in theatrical design and teaches a wide array of technical theater courses. He holds a PhD from Union Institute and University.
