CNU is Hiring!

Special event for job seekers on October 12.

Read time:

Local residents interested in jobs at Christopher Newport with good pay and working conditions are invited to attend the special hiring event on Tuesday, October 12, from 1-6 p.m.

The event will be held in the Freeman Center on campus with signs on Warwick Blvd. directing people to free parking.

Jobseekers can meet supervisors in each department, tour work sites and learn about flexible work hours and benefits. Immediate on-the-spot interviews are available.

Christopher Newport recently raised its minimum wage to $13 an hour although many available positions pay more than that.

The university is especially interested in filling these positions:

  • Dining workers
  • Housekeeping workers
  • Grounds workers
  • Electricians
  • HVAC techs
  • Maintenance techs
  • Plumbers
  • Security officers

University Police Department is also seeking uniformed officers.

The university offers employees stability and competitive pay. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit the region, Christopher Newport did not lay off any employees. Additionally, most workers receive Virginia state benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation and sick leave.

Flexibility is another bonus. Jobs offer flexible hours and shifts and both full- and part-time positions are available.

If jobseekers can’t attend the hiring event, they can visit the university’s new hiring center at the corner of Warwick Blvd. and Hiden Blvd. in Newport News. It is open Wednesday mornings and Friday afternoons.
