Family Weekend at Christopher Newport offers a remarkable array of activities, athletics and entertainment.
It also provides Captains and their loved ones and friends the opportunity to reconnect a few weeks into the start of fall semester.
“We are ready!” said President William Kelly in a message to the CNU community. “The University has never looked more beautiful. Thanks to the staff who make this place shine every day, and thanks to the faculty and coaches whose hard work has gotten this semester off to a strong start.”
The full schedule of events can be found here but these are a few of the traditional highlights:
- The Virginia Symphony Orchestra plays in the Diamonstein Concert Hall on Friday evening followed by a celebration on the Great Lawn as juniors and seniors receive pre-ordered rings.
- The Musical Showcase will pack Diamonstein Concert Hall on Saturday as students, faculty and mixed ensembles perform music to the theme of “All in.”
- The spotlight turns to TowneBank Stadium after the concert as the Captains open their home football schedule with a game against Johns Hopkins.
- Family Weekend winds down on Sunday with a lavish brunch in Regattas Dining Hall in David Student Union.
Pre-registration is required for some of the events. “Family Weekend offers activities for everyone, and I especially encourage our students whose families can’t be here to get involved,” President Kelly said.
