Christopher Newport leads all Division III programs in Virginia with 15 NCAA titles – that’s nearly four times more than the closest competitor. The latest round of academic honors reveals that Captains are just as high-achieving in the classroom.
The Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference recently named 217 Captains to the 2024-25 All-Academic Team, which means over 60 percent of Christopher Newport athletes achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.2 this past academic year. That's the highest percentage since the 2020-21 season. It also continues CNU’s long-running history of student-athlete academic success. For seven consecutive years, at least half of Christopher Newport’s 359 student-athletes were named to the All-Academic Team for the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference.
- Additionally, another 48 Captains were selected by the College Sports Communicators for the Academic All-District Selection. Three of these scholars were named Academic All-Americans in repeat selections: Alyssa Dozier (Volleyball), Hanna Heaton (Women’s Soccer), and first-time pick Jamie Martin (Softball). Martin was also named C2C Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
- In addition to the C2C conference honors, six Captains also earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Honors for a fifth time as they finished out their undergraduate and graduate time at Christopher Newport.
- 19 Christopher Newport football players have earned All-Academic Team honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). This marks the highest number of CNU football players honored since the school joined the league in 2015.
- Two women’s golfers, Taylor Davis and Julia Pelletier, earned Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars for their performance in 2024-25.
- The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association earned a special mention in the WBCA Academic Top 25.
- Four women’s tennis players were named Scholar-Athletes by the International Tennis Association (ITA) and named to the All-Academic Team.
- The entire Women’s Lacrosse team was recognized for its scholarly endeavors by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The team was selected as an Academic Honor Squad for the ninth time since 2016, a distinction reserved for programs that achieved at least a 3.2 team GPA during the academic year. Maelyn Eversole, Maggie Lockard, and Alexa Romero were named to the IWLCA National Academic Honor Roll.
