Topic Planning

There will be a variety of ways for students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders to participate in the planning process, so keep an eye out for invitations. Please contribute ideas when opportunities arise because a range of approaches to the topic are needed in order to provide different pathways for students, faculty and staff to engage with AI Literacy.

There will be four structural elements to inform our planning process: (1) a core planning committee with full responsibilities; (2) Idea Pods (see explanation below); (3) frequent consultation with certain departments, offices, and individuals who have a clear connection to or expertise in the topic; and (4) idea and feedback solicitation via surveys and focus groups. Students and other groups (e.g., alumni, employers) will also be invited to participate in different ways.

The core Topic Planning Committee (TPC) will work together for approximately one year, leading a collaborative effort with stakeholders toward crafting a recommendation that explains a framework for approaching our AI Literacy topic and strategy for implementation and assessment. The planning process entails digging into the literature and best practices; engaging the campus community and beyond in ideation and feedback; developing goals, student learning outcomes, and action plans; and, developing an assessment plan that includes measurement tools. Members of this committee include:

  • Jaime Allison – Associate Professor, History
  • Tressa Aulenbach – Associate Director of Assessment
  • David Heddle – Professor, Physics, School of Engineering & Computing
  • Zac Holmes – Director of Planning and Budget
  • Dae-Hee Kim – Associate Professor, Management and Marketing
  • Mike Levine – Assistant Professor, Musicology, Dept of Music, Theatre & Dance
  • Alyssa Reddy – Assistant Dean of Students, CHECS, Office of Student Affairs
  • Matt Shelley – Head of Instruction, Library
  • Lynn Shollen – Associate Professor, Leadership Studies; QEP Director

Idea Pods will be interdisciplinary groups of ideally five faculty and staff who work collaboratively to respond to different charges from the Topic Planning Committee. The main mission of Idea Pods is ideation. Pods will play a key role in assisting with developing our approach to the AI Literacy topic, yet will not carry the load or decision making responsibilities of the TPC. Pods will meet regularly throughout Fall 2025 - early Spring 2026. Each Pod will have a designated leader who will liaise with the TPC. Examples of what Pods may be asked to ideate on are defining AI Literacy (or a rename) in a way that suits CNU (and may also stretch us), language and visuals for branding, and different approaches to developing students’ AI literacy that will allow for faculty, staff and students to engage the topic in a way that feels comfortable enough and aligns with their perspectives on AI in a liberal arts context.

Keep an eye out for invitations to participate via Idea Pods and other avenues. You can always connect directly at qep@cnu.edu.
