The university's response to COVID-19 is informed by guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), including the following recommendations:
- If you are at high risk for severe illness, talk to your health care provider about whether you need to wear a mask and/or take other precautions.
- Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines.
- Get tested if you have symptoms.
- People with symptoms, a positive test or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.
Classes, events, official business, faculty office hours and other engagements at Christopher Newport University are in-person this academic year. The following are the safety guidelines:
- Masking is not mandatory for healthy persons anywhere on campus, but masking is very welcome for anyone who personally chooses to do so. People wearing masks may be asked for identification in accordance with University Policy 1009.
- Vaccination against COVID-19 is strongly encouraged. Please stay up-to-date!
- Test for COVID-19 if you are sick or have reason to believe that you have become infected.
- Employees should not come to work or co-mingle with others if they are sick. Visit VDH Isolation and Quarantine for guidance.
