There's always something happening in the PCSE Department. You'll have boundless opportunities to expand your learning outside of class.

Our faculty are eager to assist you in developing research that complements your interests and aspirations. Students have teamed with faculty on such cutting-edge research projects as:

  • Augmented and virtual reality
  • Botnets and cybersecurity
  • Geographical information systems
  • Robot vehicles and unmanned aerial systems
  • Modeling and simulation of nano-circuits and architectures
  • Development of particle detectors for experiments at Jefferson Lab
  • Space weather, auroral imaging and Martian atmosphere
  • And many more

The Department’s Center for Innovation in Science Education offers many opportunities for service and STEM outreach, projects, activities and service, including:

  • STEM Community Day featuring exhibitors from local STEM organizations, businesses, colleges, universities and community groups
  • Hosting of the Association for Computing Machinery regional programming competition
  • Math tutoring for middle-school students
  • Assistant coaching in Lego robotics
  • Judging of science fairs
  • Demonstrating virtual reality to the community

Our students also gain hands-on, practical experience through internships with leading science and engineering organizations such as:

  • Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab)
  • Newport News Shipbuilding
  • Northrop Grumman
  • NASA
  • Swisslog, a leading global provider of integrated solutions for logistics and automation

As a PCSE major, you'll have the opportunity to study internationally through one of three prestigious programs:

  • Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences, Germany
  • University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria
  • University of Electronic Science and Technology of China
