Recruitment - Greek Life - Christopher Newport University

Greek Life

Recruitment

We have a deferred recruitment model that requires you to earn at least 12 credits before being eligible for membership. The model places an emphasis first on your transition and acclimation to Christopher Newport and the academic environment on campus. The earliest a freshman is eligible is during second semester. Transfer students are immediately eligible to join fraternities and sororities.

Additionally, each council has a minimum GPA requirement in order to be considered for membership in any Greek organization.

How It Works

Each fall, all students are invited to attend various on-campus events hosted by fraternity and sorority chapters. These can range from interest meetings to cookouts, volleyball tournaments to philanthropic activities. You can also casually meet members and begin to learn more about the organizations through everyday conversation. Each organization is different – it’s all about finding the right fit. A small number of students may be offered membership during the fall.

Spring term is quite different than fall due to more eligible students on campus and a more formalized process for joining.
