Scholarships
The music audition automatically serves as the scholarship audition—there is nothing the applicant needs to fill out or submit for consideration of a music scholarship. Scholarship awards are available only to incoming music majors and are based primarily on the strength of the audition, although the needs of the ensembles may also be a factor. The awards are determined by the music faculty in February at the conclusion of the year’s music auditions. All music scholarships are renewable, but the recipients are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, remain enrolled as a full-time music major, and be a positive role model in attitude, character, musicianship, scholarship, and service.
The Brockett Scholarships are determined each by the musicologist. This faculty member selects a rising junior who they believe shows the greatest promise as a music scholar as evidenced by the student's work and inquisitive mind in both MUSC 303 and 304, factors that only that particular faculty member would know. Assuming all other scholarship criteria are met, the rising junior recipient keeps the scholarship for the next two years, so there is always both a junior and a senior holding the scholarship.
