After Graduation
As a political science or international affairs major, you'll have a world of opportunities at your fingertips. Graduates may start out as a legislative aide or research assistant and progress from there.
Those interested in international politics may wish to take the Foreign Service exam and work for the U.S. Department of State. Political campaigns are a great opportunity to get involved in politics and build your network of contacts. Lobbying firms provide opportunities for researchers, assistants and activists.
Many political science graduates attend graduate or law school. Businesses and corporations value the analytic and writing skills political science majors acquire. Nonprofits often have a public focus and provide opportunities to work in grant making, fundraising and administration. Public policy straddles business, lobbying and nonprofits and is another good fit for political science majors.
